Food Packaging A Reference Book For Trainers: Trade Support Services

This reference book has been prepared by the staff of the export packaging service of the International Trade Centre UNCTAD/WTO (ITC), in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), as part of a joint project aimed at stimulating the exporting and packaging industries in developing countries. It may be used for the teaching of trainers in packaging and packing, and may be given to them to facilitate their educational work. The programme for the training of trainers on farm produce and food packaging, which is an integral part of UNIDO's Second African Industrial Development Decade, was launched following consultations that led to preliminary study on training needs in the farm produce and food packaging and packing industry. The study itself was conducted in six countries of West Africa: Congo, Cote d'lvoire, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal. The recommendations and conclusions of the study were the basis for drafting a programme aimed at strengthening the training capability of engineers and senior technicians and enabling them to identify, define and organize training projects within their enterprises or in the institutions providing training for the sector. A further aim is to improve the knpwledge and the technical and teaching abilities of managers so that they can assume responsibility for training in packaging. They must therefore be able to arrange training programmes geared to the needs of the industry. This reference book on food packaging will be supplied to future trainers to achieve that purpose.
